Congratulations to Robyn Carteling awarded the Derivan Art Prize for her winning entry tittled "Flight of Fire" in the annual exhibition of tutors and students at the Forest Community Arts Centre located in the Sydney suburb of Forestville.

The Forest Community Arts Centre has large classrooms, art studio, a pottery teaching room with kilns, meeting room and an enclosed playground. The centre offers a range of arts related courses and other community activities.

At the recent graduation ceremony at the Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW Medowbank Campus, graduate from the Diploma of Fine Arts program, Chris Haldane (left in picture) was granted the winner of the Matisse Derivan Award of Excellence in Painting.

Ms. Eliza McInnes, Derivan Product Manager Coordinator, attended the ceremony to congratulate and present Christine with the Award.

Pictured left is artist Georgia Neale, winner of the Matisse Derivan 1st Prize with her winning entry entitled "Young Fella" Second Prize was awarded to artist Tilly Keenan for her self portrait in pencil entitled "Tilly".

Students from eight secondary schools within the Muray Shire Council took part in this exhibition and competition held annually.

Echuca Moama Artist is an initiative that operates the Alton Gallery located in Alton Reserve, Echuca, where several art exhibitions are held every year, including their annual Art Exhibition, as well as organising art classes, monthly guest artist talks and social painting gatherings.

Congratulations to artist John Perkins who was awarded the Derivan Prize of Excellence for his winning entry entitled "Books, Bottles and Bones".

The City of Ryde Art Society Art Exhibition and competition is part of the many activities organized by the City of Ryde Art Society every year.

The GreenWay Arts Exhibition is part of the GreenWay Festival which run from 23–29 October as a celebration of the Cooks River to Iron Cove GreenWay. The GreenWay is an urban green corridor, which has the potential for a GreenWay Trail, a shared walking and cycling path and biodiversity corridor, linking the popular Bay Run to the Cooks River pathway.

Now in its fifth year, Parramasala 2014 is a spicy mix of parade, parties, exotic bazaar, food stalls, music, dance, poetry, film, art, street performers and much more. Derivan was was happy to support and be involved in the celebrations by providing sponsorship for the Paint by Numbers activity in Prince Alfred Park, held as part of Parramasala Festival on October 17th to 19th.

The Glebe Art Show is a non-acquisitive art show that aims to support and encourage both emerging and established artists living and/or working in Glebe and neighbouring suburbs, and to promote the work and services of the Glebe Library.

This year's Derivan Prize category went to artist April White who won with her artwork entittled "Midnight Special".

Congratulations to artist Paul Williams, the winner of the Derivan Painting Prize as part of the Northbridge Art Prize Exhibition. Paul's wiining entry, Upsurge 2, is pictured at left.

Northbridge Art Prize is an annual exhibition showcasing the diverse talents of both local and interstate artists. The exhibition, now in its 10th year, displays more than 140 entries each year. A great opportunity for local art lovers to view and experience the diverse world of art and to acquire affordable artworks.

The winner of this year's National Awards Competition, in the Acrylic Category, was artist Diane Sincock (pictured below at left receiving her certificate) with her entry entittled "Pablo's Monkey". The judges remarked "An interesting, figurative concept".
Opening night was a success with a steady stream of visitors and plenty of sales. Guest competition judge, Alan Sommerville did an excellent job of judging.

As the winner of the category, Diane Sincock received $500 worth of Matisse Artist Materials.

Youthscape is a significant bi-annual youth art prize, facilitated by Royal South Australian Society of Arts , for emerging artists aged 15-26 years. Here is the winner of the Derivan award of excellence Sam Thompson for his entry “Glenferrie Road, Melbourne.

Congratulations to this years winner of the Royal Easter Show Arts and Crafts Competion Class 6 Australian Birds and or Flowers Painting, Mr Steve Jannar with his accomplished artwork entitled "Native Bushland".

Mr Jannar was awarded a $1000 worth of Matisse Derivan artist materials of his choice.

Recently held at the See Street Art Gallery, at Medowbank College, was this year's Sydney Gallery School Fine Arts Graduation where graduate Natalie Fallon was awarded the Matisse Derivan Award for Painting for her artwork entitled Meringues.

Ms. Eliza McInnes, Product Manager Coordinator, was present at the ceremony to congratulate Natalie on her success with the Award.

A raffle ticket to the value of $100 was donated as part of the prize pool in a recent event organised by the Mental Health Program in Thornleigh. An annual Arts and Crafts Fair at North Ryde was organised and held on 8th and 9th of November. This event is a joint partnership with New Horizons Aged Care facility in North Ryde.

The aim of this event was to present and communicate the benefits of using art as a therapeutic way to recover and manage symptoms of mental illness, as well as increase awareness of Thornleigh respite to potential carers and the general public in Northern Sydney. On display there were artworks including, painting, sketches, quilts, mosaic, 3D art works and photography, of which some are for sale.

Community involvement always makes a big difference. Derivan is always proud to be invited to support such worthy causes like this one.

In this year's Western Sydney Institute of TAFE Graduation Ceremony, Ruma Hort received Derivan's sponsorship gift for attaining first place in the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts in 2012.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Joan Sutherland Centre and was attended by over 500 people, including staff, students, their families and friends.

"The acknowledgement of success and the recognition which students receive by participating in the ceremony are positive incentives for students to initiate and/or further their education. A major highlight in Kudos Gallery's annual calendar is the Kudos Award for emerging artists and designers studying at COFA.

The Kudos Award seeks to recognise and support innovation and excellence across all disciplines and fields of creative endeavour at UNSW College of Fine Arts, where the finalist are showcased at Kudos Gallery in Paddington, Sydney.

The night was a huge success with BFA (Honours) student, Dylan Quirk winning the Matisse prize for his painting “Satellite Research”.

ArtBattles Australia is a live art event that combines art and entertainment.
Artists create their works using a number of different styles and techniques from street art to fine art using brush, marker pens and spray paint.

As part of the preview evening of ArtExpo Sydney 2012 at the Hordern Pavillion, ArtBattles Australia had four contestants battleing it out featuring the stand out talents of OX, SKULK, RESAN & DONUT.
On this night these four artists were up on stage and had 90 minutes to create a piece of art that the live audience would decide on the winner.

The winner of the night was SKULK (street art name), and he was very happy to receive, as part of his winnings, a prize pack of Matisse Artists Paints.

The final goal of ArtBattles Australia is to promote the creative talents of Australian artists expressing themselves using various different art syles through competitions and entertainment culminating in a Grand Final to take place earlier in January 2013.

As the winner of this year's National Awards Exhibition, Lee Sinha received $500 worth of Matisse Artist Materials.

Lee Sinha's winning entry, in the acrylics category, was a work entitled "Classical Cat", which the judge commented to be a "fantastic, clean and formal modernist work". It was an excellent exhibition with a big turn out on opening night, a steady stream of visitors daily and plenty of sales.

The Warmtheart Art competition is one of the many succession of events organised throughout 2012 by the Dubbo Deaf Club as part of the Heart Project, aiming to raise much needed funds in order to implement a purpose built Ear Bus. The Ear Bus will be a mobile clinic that will offer its services to every school from Dubbo to Bourke. The clinic is designed to test children’s ear health, treat ear conditions and raise awareness of the prevalence of Otitis Media in children.

Otitis Media (often referred to as ‘glue ear’) affects up to 1 in 3 children. In some cases, families can wait up to 2 years before treatment is available. Current policies such as 'The White Paper' make it possible for Aboriginal children between the ages of 4-6 to be tested in preschools or schools, and although this target demographic is crucial, it doesn’t permit children of other ages and non-aboriginal status to be tested within their school.

As part of their Waste Awareness Program, the Rockhampton City Council held the 2012 Castaway Art Competition. The Castaway Art Competition is a Central Queensland wide promotion of waste minimisation focused on reusing.  It is an art competition where the art must be made from objects that would otherwise be discarded. The Castaway Art Competition is held on a rotational basis throughout the contributing Council’s of CQLGA (Central Queensland Local Government Association).

Derivan proudly sponsored the competition by supplying paint for participants to use in making of the artworks and art materials package as prizes.

At the recent graduation ceremony of the Northern Sydney Institute Medowbank College, Ms Mi Jin Rosa Hyon was granted the winner of the Matisse Derivan Award for Distinction in Painting in the Diploma of Fine Arts.

The prize was presented to Rosa Hyon by Derivan's product manager Eliza McInnes on the night.

Recently held at TAP Gallery in Sydney was the "FREEDOM" Human Rights Exhibition which highlights the crucial and valuable work carried out by Amnesty International. The event aims at increasing public awareness of this organisation's work in human rights protection through emerging artists expressing their concerns on world violations.

This years winner of the Derivan $500 FREEDOM ART PRIZE was Melbourne artist Michelle Downing with her entry tittled "Emmanuel".
Her piece is a portrait of a Sudanese refugee who was a child soldier, and now is a guiding light for youth in Melbourne.
It is a beautiful little piece with a lot of sentiment and a perfect choice for this event.

Derivan's commitment and support reaches far and wide.

Within the heart of the conglomerate of The Sunrise Children’s Village in Phnom Penh Cambodia there is a uniquely designed building to be used as a musical centre, where music students could learn, practice, and play music. The building looks like a huge three-meter-high pipe made of concrete, with a cup in the shape of a boarder hat at the top.  The total external circumference surface of the building is approximately 86 square meters including two doors and six windows (description taken from Abbas Mehran's Blog).

Artists Abbas Mehran has been able to create and contribute to bettter the lives of a community through colourful images and representations of a world full of hope and happiness.

..."The mural should act as an art temple, which transmit a sense of hope, care and respect for children and the environment as the two most precious elements of our future. The visitors should enjoy viewing the mural and take a positive message with them.
As an artist, I have been assigned a tiny spec of the universe, and I have had the intention to make it as meaningful and beautiful as possible within the time and material constrains. I feel proud and fulfilled in creating a mural which would have positive influence in the children as well as the adult.

Derivan continues to support artists and the creative community. One of the many relationships developed over the years with australian artists has been with visual artist Peter Griffen, who continues to achieve success in the local art market as well as overseas. Peter Griffen has an extensive schedule of workshops and art exhibitions programed for 2012.

As part of this program, the official launch of his recently published book, "In and Out of Abstraction", will take place at the Wagner Gallery in Sydney this coming February.

Peter Griffen's Events 2012

This year the Derivan Printmaking Prize was awarded to artist Loren Hill for her winning entry titled: "Cut and Portfolio". An acomplished silk screened piece on Stonehenge paper and silk thread.

Quirk-ability is a not for profit, unique art gallery located in the Connection Arcade, Parramatta. The gallery opened in June 2011 as part of Pop-up Parramatta Creative Enterprize putting artists into empty spaces. The gallery endeavors to encourage all art and creativity through a community gallery program that presents a new exhibition every 3 to 4 weeks. From traditional to contemporary new media, Quirk-ability has shown the work of over 80 artists through its exhibition program and handmade stock items, along with workshops and events.
We would like to thank Derivan for the generous donation of paints for a prize to be presented on the 15th of December for the Quirk-ability art show and prize. Your donation will really make this event memorable and further encourage the benefits of creativity!

As Part of the GreenWay Festival 2011, The Greenway Arts Exhibition, is an annual prize open to artist all over Sydney and included entries in the techniques of painting, drawing, printmaking and photography, with all works reflecting the GreenWay's themes of active transport, community and art, sustainability and the environment.
