Preparation
Painted Surface:

Unpainted Surface:
- Prepare the surface by wiping it free of dust with a damp cloth and leave to dry.
- Sand lightly with 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper if necessary.
- Apply a coat of any good quality household water-based primer taking care to create a smooth finish.
Application
NOTE: BOTH PRIMER AND TOP COAT SHOULD BE STIRRED WELL BEFORE USE.
STEP 1 – Primer
- Apply Derivan AVScreen Primer with a good quality, short nap, mohair roller for the best results. The sleeve should be washed in water and dried prior to use to remove any excess mohair.
- Mask off the area you wish to paint (using a good quality masking tape)
- Roll out the primer taking care to reduce streaking where possible.
HINT: Do not apply primer too thickly, as peaks will occur. - Allow to dry - wash out roller thoroughly in water between coats.
- Once dry, sand lightly with 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper.
- Apply a second coat of primer.
- Allow to dry fully.
- Sand lightly with 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper.
STEP 2 - Top Coat
The same short nap, mohair roller can be used for the top coat.
HINT: For the best results, try covering the roller sleeve with a fine mesh to hold down the nap and prevent mohair dislodging. We suggest a pair of light coloured panty hose tucked tightly in at both ends of the roller cage. It’s very important to have this tight. This method will give the smoothest result.
- Roll out the Derivan AVScreen Top Coat in the same way as the primer but some pressure should be exerted onto the roller for the best finish.
- Two coats of top coat should be applied allowing the paint to dry between coats.
- Wash out roller in water thoroughly between coats.
- Roll the final coat in the same direction for each stroke (either up or down, not up and down) for the best finish.
Maintenance
To keep your new screen in good condition, simply dust and wipe over with a damp cloth. After approximately 10,000 hours of use the screen might need a new coat of Top Coat to bring it back to peak performance.
